Malchi Profile

Country of Origin:

The Malchi, also known as the Malachi and the Maltechi, is a designer hybrid dog that originated in the United States. The Malchi is a cross breeding of the Maltese and Chihuahua breeds. The Malchi is currently recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club, Designer Dogs Kennel Club, Dog Registry of America, International Designer Canine Registry and the Designer Breed Registry.

The Malchi will typical reach heights of 5-10 inches and an average weight of 6-10 pounds. However, the Malchi will rarely exceed a weight of 7 pounds.

The Malchi's coat will vary between the coat characteristics is the Maltese and the Chihuahua. Often, a puppy will take on characteristics of one breed more than the other, however, a perfect mix of the two breeds will result in the long, soft hair of the Maltese. However, they may appear short-haired as well. This mix is not hypo-allergenic and sheds moderately. The Malchi can exhibit coat colors common for both the Chihuahua and the Maltese.

The Malchi is a fun, loyal and loving breed that will be pleased as punch to follow you everywhere. This little bundle of personality makes an excellent family companion. However, the Malchi is recommended for homes with older children, or no children at all. The Malchi does not take well to being teased and had been known to snap at small children. The Malchi is also known for their stubborn streak, so a consistent pack leader is a must. The Malchi is not recommended as a watchdog, as they do have a tendency to bark without cause.

As stated previously, the Malchi is a mixed breed consisting of the Maltese and Chihuahua breeds. A mixed breed dog can have a combination of any of the temperament and characteristics of any breed involved. It is recommended that you thoroughly research all breeds involved in your mixed breed puppy to ensure that you are amenable and prepared for any of the possibilities.

The Malchi should be fed 2-3 times daily. Extra care should be taken to keep ears clean, as the Malchi is susceptible to ear infections. Be sure to dry the ears thoroughly after baths or recreational swimming. The grooming requirements for the Malchi will vary based on the coat type. Short-haired Malchi's will require minimal grooming, brushing only occasionally to remove dead hair and bathe when necessary. The long-haired variety will require more frequent brushing and possibly professional grooming to prevent matting.

The Malchi has the propensity to be stubborn, so it is necessary to begin training early and continue consistently. The Malchi is intelligent and will typically learn quickly, however, a more subdued pack leader will have a difficult time getting their Malchi to answer commands. Ensure your Malchi understands who the pack leader is to prevent Small Dog Syndrome.

The Malchi requires a moderate amount of activity and will benefit from regular daily walks. Refer to information regarding the Maltese and Chihuahua breeds for further insight into the possible activity level of your Malchi puppy.
